Atkinson will compete in Foot Locker Cross Country National Championships

Fresh off his third cross country state title, Melbourne High School's Brian Atkinson qualified for the 31st annual Foot Locker Cross Country National Championships.

Atkinson finished 10th at the South Regional on Saturday with a time of 14 minutes, 57 seconds. The top 10 boys and girls qualified to compete against runners from the Northeast, Midwest, and West Regional meets in the Nationals, which will be held Dec.12 in San Diego, Calif.

Craig Lutz of Marcus High School in Highland Village, Texas won the boys race in 14:34. Chelsey Sveinsson of Greenhill School in Dallas, Texas won the girls race in 16:53.
