Maddie Gardiner, a junior at The Covenant School in Virginia, placed 20th overall at the Champs Sports Cross Country Championships at Balboa Park's Morley Field in San Diego, Calif. Gardiner covered the 5-kilometer layout in 18:06.3 to improve from finishing 38th last season in 19:58.5, contributing to the South Regional lineup securing second place overall by a 32-38 margin behind the Northeast.
