Cross Country: Regis Jesuit’s Danny Nicolls heads to Foot Locker finals

Senior set to run Dec. 12 race with three other Colorado qualifiers

Regis Jesuit senior Danny Nicolls is scheduled to compete in the Foot Locker National Cross Country Championship race on Dec. 12 in San Diego.

Nicolls, who helped lead his team to the Class 5A state championship on Nov. 7, is among four Colorado boys in the field of 40 who will race on the 3.1-mile race at Balboa Park.

Joining Nicolls from Colorado are Cherry Creek’s Walter Schafer, Wheat Ridge’s Scott Fauble and Denver Christian’s Ryan Poland, the individual state champions in 5A, 4A and 3A, respectively. All four were among the top 10 finishers in the Midwest Regional on Nov. 28 in Kenosha, Wis.

“I’m just really happy to make it after not qualifying last year and I’m excited for my chance to run the national race,” said Nicolls, who was 25th in regional qualifying last season. “I am really excited to go with the other guys from Colorado and I think we’re all going to do really well.”
